Inhalt

Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) was formulated in the early 1980s as an alternative to transformational/derivational approaches to Syntax.  The Theory dealt with a range of different languages from the outset (e.g., Malayalam, Warlpiri, Russian as well as English) and has established itself within theoretical linguistics as well as computational linguistics.  This course conveys the basic philosophy underlying LFG and teaches students how to analyze language by means of the concepts developed within LFG.  It is particularly useful for students studying natural language processing (e.g., MA Speech and Language Processing).
