What is animal behaviour? What is intelligence? How do animals make sense of their world? This lecture will address these questions, focusing on the neural processes that allow animals to sense, learn and decide--the fundamental elements of behaviour. Scaling from neural groups to the whole brain we will explore how information is consolidated, how different sensory modalities are integrated and the creativity and insight-promoting nature of sleep. Finally we will consider how dysregulation of these processes results in psychiatric pathology that can profoundly impact cognition and behaviour
