With Opencast Studio you can make screen recordings including webcam and microphone. You don't need any software other than a browser and your presentation (e.g. PowerPoint or PDF). We recommend Chrome or Firefox as a browser and a good internet connection.
You will find Opencast Studio in ILIAS within the Opencast object. If necessary, please follow the steps for creating an Opencast object.
Preparations and tips
- Set up your webcam and microphone.
- Ensure a continuous power supply.
- Avoid interruptions and sources of interference.
- Record several short videos rather than one long one.
- Start your presentation in a window instead of full screen mode. Set up the size of the presentation as you want it to appear in the video.
By clicking on the cogwheel icons, you can select the appropriate webcam if several webcams are connected. You can also make settings for the resolution. 'Auto' is usually recommended.
When recording with sound, select the microphone to be used. You can also check whether a signal is recognised when you speak and the level drops.
After you have ended the recording by clicking on the stop button, you can trim the recording, i.e. cut the beginning and end. To do this, use the two scissors symbols.
The symbols only become active after you have either pressed the Play button or clicked in the timeline with the mouse.
You can then enter the title and name details and upload the recording for processing in the system.
If you wish, you can also save the uncut raw data individually on your computer.
After a successful upload, a confirmation is displayed.
Use the browser's back function to return to your ILIAS course.
