This introductory course is dedicated to the linguistic analysis of present-day English. We will examine the language at all linguistic levels of analysis, starting with speech sounds (phonetics), its sound structure (phonology), the types and structure of its words (morphology), its sentence structure (syntax), as well as literal meaning (semantics) and meaning in communication (pragmatics). SHE-I consists of weekly lectures and tutorials.
