Non-photorealistic rendering: how to display and abstract objects for humans.

Prof. Dr. Oliver Deussen, Chair Visual Computing; University of Konstanz

Oliver Deussen will present at the Summer Seminar Series on "Non-photorealistic rendering: how to display and abstract objects for humans. "

Most methods in computer graphics produce realistic-looking images. For more than three decades, however, researchers have also been creating abstract visual representations with applications in planning procedures, documentation, games and visual arts. In my talk I will describe our efforts to produce representations with a given degree of abstraction and discuss our ideas to produce such renderings for different animals. Finally, I will discuss our painting robot e-david that we use to investigate the extent to which machines can create artwork.
